What Coaching Is

Coaching is about finding clarity in what matters most to you. As your coach, I don’t tell you what to do — instead, I listen deeply and ask the kinds of questions that bring out your own wisdom. You can expect me to maintain a non-judgmental presence during our sessions and to uphold confidentiality.

We begin each session by clarifying what’s most important for today, then explore through questions, reflection, and sometimes brainstorming or role play. My role is to create a safe space where new insights can emerge. When a shift happens, I’ll invite you to imagine how to bring this awareness into your life, and together we’ll create a plan so the transformation continues beyond our time together.

What Coaching Is Not

Coaching is not therapy. Therapy often looks to the past or explores trauma, while coaching stays rooted in the present and focuses on where you want to go now. We may uncover underlying beliefs, but the work is not about analyzing childhood experiences. Many people find coaching helpful after therapy, while others benefit without ever having seen a therapist.

Coaching is also not mentorship, consulting, or advice-giving. I don’t bring my own agenda or try to fix you. Instead, I ask questions that help you set the agenda and discover your own answers. And it’s not surface-level problem solving either; if you want to “get more organized,” for example, we’ll explore why that matters and how it connects to deeper needs in your life.

Finally, coaching is not the same as a friendly chat. While conversations with friends, clergy, or mentors can be valuable, coaching is a professional practice with clear agreements and structure. It’s also not about setting unrealistic goals — instead, we focus on clarity, realistic action, and meaningful growth.

How Coaching Works

We begin with a complimentary 30-minute discovery call to see if coaching is right for you and whether we’re a good fit. If we decide to move ahead, you’ll read and sign a simple coaching agreement so we’re on the same page.

Sessions are 50 minutes long and held on Zoom. Coaching is offered in six-session series, ideally every two weeks over a three-month period. To help keep you on track, your package includes a text check-in by me in between sessions. The investment for a six-session package is $750. At the end of each series, we review your progress, reflect on what you’ve learned, and decide together on next steps. Shorter series length is available on a case-by-case basis.

What We Can Work On

Anything that shows up in your life can be a coaching topic. Even something that seems small or practical — like wanting better sleep or organizing your home — can become a doorway to deeper growth when we explore what it really means for you.

Here are some of the areas coaching can touch:

  • Health & Well-Being: weight and eating issues, sleep challenges, fitting fitness into life, aging and midlife energy, facing illness or a difficult diagnosis, developing and maintaining a meditation practice

  • Life Transitions: divorce or break-ups, death of a loved one, navigating retirement, finding a new home, de-cluttering

  • End-of-Life Clarity: clarifying what matters most in one’s final stage of life and completing advance directives to ease decision-making for loved ones

  • Relationships: navigating challenges with siblings, partners/spouses, parents, friends, children, colleagues, or bosses

  • Work & Purpose: finding meaningful work, work-life balance, money issues, clarifying personal values, making a difference in the world, showing up in groups

Reflection and Accountability

Much of the value of coaching happens between sessions. Reviewing what we’ve covered and taking the actions you’ve committed to is where transformation takes root. Self-accountability is encouraged — I won’t require “homework reports” unless you ask for them.

To make reflection easier, I provide session notes generated by Zoom’s AI Companion. You’re also welcome to record sessions, listen back, or use other AI tools to help integrate what was explored. If you’re new to these tools, I can help you get started.
